How to test real pearls
Here are listed few simple ways to test real pearls:
1. Use your teeth; real pearls feel sandy while false ones feel smooth.
2. Use touch; real pearls feel cool while false ones feel oily.
3. Scrape them; use scissors or a sharp blade to scrape the surface. This will not damage real pearls. The surface of the false pearls will scrape off and reveal the dull, plastic core.
How to take care of your pearls
To maintain the beauty of your pearls, take care of them properly:
1. Store your pearls in a separate non-abrasive box or pouch to prevent scratching. The best place to store your pearls is in it's own jewelry box.
2. Avoid contact with cosmetics and chemicals - perfume, deodorant and hairspray included. Put on your jewelry after applying your make-up and perfume.
3. Don't expose your pearls to water, sweat or excessive heat. Remove your jewelry before swimming, sunbathing, exercising, taking shower, going into sauna etc.
4. Periodic cleaning is recommended. Pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. After washing, wrap them in clean cotton towel to dry. Never clean your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents. Don't put pearl jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner.
5. Handle with care and do not apply any unnecessary force.
